  4.      **             DOCUDRAFTR SYSTEM INSTALLATION                  **
  5.      **                                                             **
  6.      **            NEW USER'S START-UP INSTRUCTIONS                 **
  7.      **                                                             **
  8.      These instructions  concerning the  installation and  use of  the 
  9.      DocuDraftr  Document  Assembly  System  programs are  provided to 
  10.      assist you in the installation of the programs.   If you  are not 
  11.      able to get the  programs running  properly do  not hesitate  to 
  12.      call us at (405)  840-3563 to  get them  installed properly.   If 
  13.      they are not installed  properly you  will be  unable to  get the 
  14.      full benefit of their use in your business  or practice.   BEFORE 
  15.      PROCEEDING, YOU SHOULD MAKE A WORK COPY OF  THE DOCUDRAFTR  DISK, 
  16.      OR DISKS, AND SAVE THE ORIGINALS AS BACKUPS.
  17.      
  18.      You may review this file and the general program help  file using 
  19.      the VIEW.EXE program by placing the program disk in your A: or B: 
  20.      floppy  disk  drive,  changing  to  that  drive and  entering the 
  21.      command "view readme.dtr" or  "view fmhelp.msg".   You may  print 
  22.      those files by using the DOS Print Command.
  23.      
  24.      If  you have a hard disk follow these instructions when  you  are 
  25.      ready to begin installing the programs:
  26.      
  27.      1.  If you use a menu system return to the DOS prompt.  Enter the 
  28.      following commands to change to the root directory and make a new 
  29.      directory called PCFORMS:
  30.      
  31.           CHDIR C:\ 
  32.           MKDIR C:\PCFORMS 
  33.      
  34.      2.   Place  the DocuDraftr disk, or disks, in  your  floppy  disk 
  35.      drive  and  enter the following commands to copy  the  forms  li-
  36.      braries  to the new PCFORMS directory on your hard disk: (If  the 
  37.      floppy  drive is the B: drive, substitute B: for A: in  the  last 
  38.      two commands)
  39.      
  40.           CHDIR \PCFORMS 
  41.           COPY A:*.LEX 
  42.           COPY A:*.VBL 
  43.      
  44.      3.  Change to the directory on your hard disk in which your  word 
  45.      processing program is located by entering the appropriate command 
  46.      which is probably one of the following:
  47.      
  48.           CHDIR \WP (for WordPerfect, Version 4.2) 
  49.           CHDIR \WP50 (for WordPerfect, Version 5.0) 
  50.           CHDIR \WP51 (for WordPerfect, Version 5.1) 
  51.           CHDIR \WS (for WordStar, Version 3.3) 
  52.           CHDIR \WS4 (for WordStar, Version 4.0) 
  53.           CHDIR \WS5 (for Wordstar, Version 5.0 or 5.5) 
  54.           CHDIR \VDE (for the Video Display Editor, VDE)
  55.           CHDIR \PCW (or something similar, for PC-Write)
  56.       
  57.      Check  to be sure you are in the right directory by entering  the 
  58.      commands  DIR *.EXE and DIR *.COM after changing directories  and 
  59.      checking  for the program file WP.EXE, WS.EXE,  VDE.COM,  WS.COM, 
  60.      ED.EXE, WRITER.COM.   If you use WordPerfect the utility  program 
  61.      CONVERT.EXE must also be in this directory.  If you use Friendly-
  62.      Writer FWCNV.EXE must be copied to the directory.
  63.      
  64.      4.  Copy the files  PCFM.EXE, PCLB.EXE,  and FMHELP.MSG  from the 
  65.      DocuDraftr disk on which  they were  copied to  the directory  or 
  66.      disk where your WordStar, WordPerfect VDE, PC-Write  or Friendly-
  67.      Writer programs are located by entering the commands:
  68.      
  69.           COPY A:PCFM.EXE
  70.           COPY A:PCLB.EXE
  71.           COPY A:FMHELP.MSG
  72.       
  73.      5.  Check to see that your word processing directory is  included 
  74.      in the DOS "PATH" command by entering the command:
  75.      
  76.           PATH 
  77.      
  78.      If  it  is  not listed, find the AUTOEXEC.BAT  or  MENU.BAT  file 
  79.      containing  the  "PATH" command which is used when you  boot  the 
  80.      system.  Copy the existing file to a file called AUTOEXEC.SAV  or 
  81.      MENU.SAV as a back-up, then, modify it to include the word  proc-
  82.      essing  directory by using EDLIN, VDE or your word  processor  in 
  83.      Non-Document,  ASCII or "DOS Text" mode.  (With  WordPerfect  set 
  84.      the margins as far apart as possible and use the CTRL-F5  options 
  85.      to retrieve and save the file in ASCII).
  86.      
  87.      YOU MUST RE-BOOT THE SYSTEM AFTER CHANGING THE "PATH" COMMAND FOR 
  88.      THE NEW PATH TO BECOME EFFECTIVE!!!
  89.      
  90.      You should now be able to start the PC-FORMS program  by changing 
  91.      to the PCFORMS Directory and entering the command  "PCFM" or  the 
  92.      PC-LIBRARY program by entering the command "PCLB".  If you use  a 
  93.      menu system you may want to add them to your menu.  Just remember 
  94.      that you must change to the PCFORMS directory before starting the 
  95.      programs.

  97.      If  you  do not use a hard disk you can still  run  the  programs 
  98.      linked  to your word processor.  To do so, copy the files  listed 
  99.      in Step 4, above, to the disk where your word processor  programs 
  100.      are  located.    Be sure to include  the  appropriate  conversion 
  101.      program,  CONVERT.EXE or FWCNV.EXE, on that disk with  your  word 
  102.      processor  program.   Then,  copy the forms  libraries  from  the 
  103.      DocuDraftr disks to a data disk, or disks, by using the *.LEX and 
  104.      *.VBL file specifications.  Start the programs by entering "PCFM" 
  105.      or "PCLB" with your data disk drive as the default drive.
  106.      
  107.      If you want to test the DocuDraftr System  programs without  them 
  108.      being linked to your word processor copy ALL OF THE FILES on  the 
  109.      DocuDraftr disks to the disk and directory from which you want to 
  110.      run  it  and  enter  "PCFM" or  "PCLB" with  that as  the default 
  111.      directory.
  112.      
  113.                 *** NOTE ON SUPER VGA MONITORS AND CARDS ***
  114.      
  115.      Some  users have been unable to get their Super VGA  monitors  to 
  116.      display  the PC-FORMS and PC-LIBRARY program menus properly.   If 
  117.      you  experience  this  difficulty you can solve  the  problem  by 
  118.      changing  the color codes under the {~LIB#} variable name in  the 
  119.      help  section  of the *.VBL library files with  your  ASCII  text 
  120.      editor  from 01023079082 to the number 01031079082.  See the  PC-
  121.      FORMS manual for an explanation of these color and  value-billing 
  122.      codes.

  124.      The effect  of this  change is  to make  the normal  text display 
  125.      bright white on a blue background, as displayed  by the  VIEW.EXE 
  126.      program, instead of white on a blue background  which some  Super 
  127.      VGA cards and monitors seem not to display.
  128.      
  129.      The author of the DocuDraftr system recommends the use of the VDE 
  130.      text editor for developing or modifying DocuDraftr library files.  
  131.      It  is available as shareware for a very reasonable  registration 
  132.      fee  and  automatically creates ASCII files  following  the  text 
  133.      rules of the DocuDraftr system.  Of course, any other text editor 
  134.      capable of creating files of pure ASCII text may be used.
